Will I receive a course schedule upon registration?

A program syllabus is included in this brochure. A course schedule with dates, times, module numbers, course description and credit information will be handed to students at the student orientation session.


How are courses graded?

Based on summary or overall grade-point average.

95 - 100% = Distinction of Merit (Recognition by Registrar or "Registrar List")
90 - 94% = Academic Excellence (Certificate of "Academic Excellence")
70 - 89% = Academic Average


What if I need to re-write an exam?

Students will not be allowed to re-write exams; except in situations where there exists extenuating circumstances warranting a re-write. The decision for the re-writing of exams is at the discretion of the course instructor under advisement from the Academy Registrar.


Are there any assignments?

Many of the courses offer hands on instruction in class and proctored exams after instruction. However, assignments and / or student projects submitted after the issued due date will result in a daily penalty of one mark per day until they are submitted.


Are there credits for the courses?

The Community Support Worker program is based on a credit system of 100 credits for the complete program. Credits are awarded based on full course attendance and acceptable pass grades for courses or certification. Students must score no lower than 70% on exams to receive a passing grade for a course. some course recertification percentages may vary.


Are there certificates awarded for courses?

Several of the courses offered through the Community Service Worker certificate program offer certificates of completion and / or recognition of passing grades. Students will be awarded all certificates upon graduation along with their program transcripts providing all Excel Academy course registration criteria has been met.


What happens when a student graduates from the Community Support Worker Program?

Students will not receive their certification at the graduation ceremonies if they have not provided the Academy with all necessary administration information, not met all attendance or curriculum grading criteria,or have not made all payments for course instruction. A graduation ceremony will be scheduled upon completion of the 17 week program and if all criteria is met, graduates will receive the Community Support Worker Program certification and a transcript of their marks.
The three practicums that are mandatory for the students to complete in the curriculum and the employment preparation component of the program will be beneficial in helping graduates secure employment in their chosen career.


How is quality assurance monitored?

The management and staff strive to offer quality courses that focus on the latest techniques and information in the field. A team of management and instructors consistently review course material to ensure it is "cutting edge". Students will be expected to complete at the end of the 17 week program an evaluation on the program curriculum and the instructors that have taught the courses. This information is reviewed by management and suggested changes are taken into consideration.


What if I must withdraw from the program once I have registered for the course?

Once a student has been accepted to the Community Support Worker certificate program and has paid tuition fees, withdrawals must be forwarded to the Excel Academy Registrar in writing. Refunds will be determined according to The Private Vocational Schools Act Retention and Repayment of Fees schedule.
