What are my
rights as a student of the Excel Academy?
Students have
the right and expectation that all personal information they
have provided to the Excel Academy will be confidential.
Student information will only be accessible to Excel Academy
administration and only used for legitimate administrative
requirements (eg. Some personal information will be required
by Alberta Learning for Academy licensing information and
will also be subject to confidentiality outlines).
Students have the right and expectation to access of their
students files and grades but must make this request in
writing and submit the same to Excel Academy administrative
assistant.
Students have the right to access of course outlines
(syllabus), schedules, and grade expectations and penalties
for course absences, assignment delays, punctuality, etc.
upon course registration and acceptance. These expectations
and penalties are outlined in the student orientation
manual.
Students have the right to assume course curriculum and
expectations, criteria, and requirements will not change
drastically upon program commencement.
Students have the right to freedom of expression and opinion
without fear of reprival and / or penalty.
Students have the right to full instructional hours as
outlined in course outlines.
Students have the right to impartial evaluation or their
grade / class performance.
Students have the right to assignment marks and assignment
reviews with a reasonable amount of grading time unless
informed prior to the assignment by instructor.
Students have the right to expectation of qualified,
knowledgable course instruction, materials an instructors.
What are Excel Academy's disciplinary measures and appeal
process?
Students who
do not conduct themselves in the expected manner outlined in
the expected student outcomes will / may be subject to:
disciplinary
measures that may include written or verbal reprimands that
are recorded / tracked in student files;
disciplinary measures decided by the Instructor, Registrar
or a panel of Excel Academy staff depending on the magnitude
of the violating offence;
expulsion or suspension from the program or legal
ramifications depending on the magnitude of the violating
offence. In the case of expulsion or suspension, student
will receive a written letter from the Excel Academy
Registrar stating violation and ramification. In the case of
expulsion or suspension, student will return all materials
belonging to the Excel Academy immediately.
Students can
appeal in writing to course Instructor or Excel Academy
Registrar regarding course mark discrepancies. Marks will be
reviewed and discussed with the student.
Students can appeal stronger disciplinary measures in front
of a panel of Excel Academy Staff members and / or appeal to
the Excel Society President in writing if they feel
disciplinary measures are unwarranted. A student appeal
process policy can be made available to a student upon
request.
A format for Student Appeal to Alberta Learning can be made
available to a student upon request.
What does Excel Academy expect of its students?
Students are
expected to conduct themselves during classroom, practicum
and time at the Excel Academy or Excel Society in a
responsible appropriate acceptable, non-disruptive manner.
Failure to comply to same will result in review by a panel
of Excel Academy staff and / or disciplinary measures that
could include expulsion.
Academic dishonesty including cheating, deceit, fraud,
plagiarism will not be tolerated and will be subject to
disciplinary action at the discretion of the Academy
Instructor and / or Registrar.
Students are expected to conduct themselves in a non
threatening, non violent way that does not physically,
mentally, or sexually harass fellow students and / or staff.
Disruptive or disturbing activities will be subject to
disciplinary action at the discretion of a panel of Excel
Academy staff. Depending on the magnitude of a violation,
disciplinary could include explusion or legal ramifications.
Students are expected to treat all Excel Academy and Excel
Society and staff and clients with respect and will not
intentionally destroy or damage school / society property.
Intentional damage could result in legal ramifications and /
or expulsion.
Students are expected to refrain from unauthorized entry to
Excel Academy or Excel Society property during and after
class hours.
Students are expected to complete assignments and courses as
per expected outlines and times and will adhere to contracts
they have signed regarding waiver of work at the Excel
Society during course progrm.
Students are responsible for fulfilling obligations of the
contracts they have signed into in conjunction / relation to
the Community Support Worker Program including student
financing terms.
What are Excel Academy's policies on attendance and
punctuality?
Students
must be in attendance for full course time. The Excel
Academy has a 0% tolerance rate for absenteeism. Students
who are ill must produce a medical certificate.
Circumstances and consequences for absenteeism will be
reviewed and determined by a panel of Excel Academy staff
members and may result in expulsion.
Because training is intense and all course time is used to
advantage, students are expected to be on time for
instruction as listed in course schedules. Tardiness will be
addressed by the Excel Academy Instructors and / or
Registrar and may result in expulsion, if chronic. |
